This morning:
“Just Coffee? Will that be everything?”
“Yes, thankyou, this coffee is really good. Hey, would you mind if I took a few photos of this place?”
*silence
“It will only take 20 minutes”
*silence
“I don’t speak english”
“Are you serious?”
OK.
Alright! It has been a busy last couple of weeks. I apologize for the lack of updates.
Not too much has been going on. I’m kind of in a strange spot as far as photography goes. I am trying to get everything ready for the show in November, and it has gone well, I just need to tie up all the loose ends. I keep second guessing myself, and I think that is mostly due to the unbelievable amount of photos I have been recently exposed to. I am exhausted from trying to break apart photos, find what I enjoy, apply it to my work and continue to define my voice. It’s a struggle that I know every artist deals with.

After all that, I was at the bookstore this weekend and I came across The Nature of Photographs by Stephen Shore. Shore is one of my favorites and I have been meaning to buy this book for awhile, but due to all the recent events, the book really called out to me. I haven’t finished it yet, but the advice that I acquired from the first few pages has been auspicious.

Anyway, this guy rules.
RJ SHAUGHNESSY

My friend Bryan recently introduced me to Los Angeles’ RJ Shaughnessy and his work is spot on. I have visited this website at least ten times in the past two days. Also, I am super bummed that his book “death camp” is sold out.
JESS WILLIAMSON

I must admit, my initial thoughts when I heard about this project were not good. Jess Williamson totally nailed it. It is really great work. You can read the article and see a few of the photos here.
Jess and I will be working on a HUGE upcoming project. More details to come…
PORCH PARTY!

Every Wednesday I meet up with 5 other photographers to talk about photography and drink beer. What more out of life could you ask for? We’re planning a show in October. Possibly around the 11th?
ANNIE GUNN

Annie Gunn lives here in Austin. I can think of a million photographers to post about today, but I find myself constantly returning to her Flickr Stream. Take a look for yourself and be instantly charmed. I am lucky to have a few beers with her every Wednesday at photo club.
